Let's Hear it For Our Cooks 29-Sep
The provision of a nutritious meal is a huge help to ensuring children stay healthy and succeed. Every day our wonderful cook Saroj and her helper Sarojini set about preparing lunch at Mango House. Prior to June it was quite a task to cook for 100 but with the opening of the pre-primary school numbers swelled to 170. Undeterred bigger pots were bought and more meals produced. We reckon these two ladies will produce over 30,000 meals on this two ring stove - remarkable!

How Does your Garden Grow 15-Sep
Recently Mango House came up with an innovative solution to an unusual problem. One Mum asked for help with her daughter who had the habit of stealing plants. Our counsellor spoke to the little girl but on reflection the staff realised she just wanted to grow things and it would be a shame to stamp out this spirit. They decided to divide the afternoon children into 6 groups and allocate each a plot at Mango House. Each group has set about clearing and planting their garden and after some months the best garden group will be given a prize. Let’s see how our green fingered children progress.

Today we introduced our new Child Sponsorship Programme. Our scheme will enable supporters to follow the progress of one of the youngest Mango House children. You can read all about our scheme at our dedicated Sponsorship page here.
Happy Ganesh Chaturthi 09-Sep
Over the coming days many Indians will celebrate the joyful festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. During the festival it is traditional to prepare special sweets to be shared with relatives and friends. The sweets were distributed to all the Mango House children the following day before breaking up for a week's holiday.

We wish all those celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi a joyful festival.

Thank You Childline 25-Aug
Many disadvantaged children live in vulnerable situations. They have little access to media and may find themselves in abusive situations which they may are powerless to deal with. To help combat this Childline conducts face to face meetings with children to teach them about appropriate behaviour and personal safety rules. They also teach them about the Childline service, how to dial 1098 etc. THANK YOU to Childline for visiting last week and conducting a programme for all children and staff.
Celebrating Rhaki Day 20-Aug
The Rhaki festival celebrates the special bond that brothers and sisters share. Sisters tie a band (rhaki) on their brother's wrist as a mark of love and honour and the brother, in return, promises to look after her. Yesterday, the Mango House children spent time making bands in readiness to share today. We hope all brothers and sisters reading this remember their special bond today.
